band history

Agent Axiom - Rob joined the band in August of 2007. Their music was fresh, catchy, and fun. Rob complimented the band's ambition and talent to create new and exciting originals as well as delivering a unique sound to all of the cover tunes they played. www.agentaxiom.com

John Juul and Friends -
JJ has put together a nice little blues band playing covers from Robin Ford, Little Walter among others. The band really kicks into high gear with the help of 'Harmonica' Todd Levine and Warren Beck singing songs like Mr. Dollar and The Sky Is Cryin'. Occasionally other well known blues artists like Barrelhouse Chuck or Sharon Lewis will join in. www.johnjuul.com

Chicago Rhythm -
This was a promising but short-lived band that was put together by several of the original Vinyl Highway Band members. It was a cover band playing songs from artists like Glorial Estefan, Michele Branch (Santana), and Pat Benatar. We got as far as playing a couple of sets worth of material but never played out. I'll add some audio tracks from this band to the 'Audio' page.

Three Machine -
This is a band led by Mike Koontz with Jim Ford on Bass. This all-original band is the result of many months of studio work with Rob and Mike to develop 11+ progressive rock songs. Visit the 3M website to learn more about this band and to hear several audio tracks from the 3M CD.

Vinyl Highway
- This high energy cover band, formed in 2004, features music mainly from the '60s and '70s. The band played music from Argent, The Outsiders, Three Dog Night, Santana, Procol Harum, and many others.

KVB (Koontz, van Daal and Bernstein) - This band (2003) was a great trio improvising avant-garde rock. You can listen to some of KVB's work in the Audio section.

The Naims - This band was formed in 2002 included Peter Mayer from Hijinx on keyboards, and Carl 'Stormy' Piper on guitar. They did one show at a backyard party jamfest. Other musicians were invited to perform including Slam Daddy and the Son Spots.

Hijinx - All-originals band formed in 1980. All songs written by Peter Mayer and Rob van Daal. Most lyrics were written by Trace Zabor. They worked for over a year on these songs but only did one show. The crowd loved the music. Too bad the band broke up after that.

Episode - Joined Episode in 1976. Played all pop songs of the day. Rob toured with this band for over a year.

Breeze - College band. The first band Rob played in with a brass section.

P.O.T.M. - Rob's high school band from 1972. Jazz-Rock influence featuring Ron Schwartz on keyboards who he played together since Jr. High (1968). They made a great team. A real 2-man band.
